[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Homeplus, which recently entered corporate rehabilitation procedures, has had its promissory note dishonored for the first time by banks, leading to the full suspension of its checking account transactions as of today (10th).

According to the financial sector, the Korea Financial Telecommunications & Clearings Institute (KFTC) officially registered and announced Homeplus as a suspended entity on its dishonored transaction inquiry page.

A KFTC official stated, "SC First Bank, Homeplus’s primary bank, has informed us that it has finally dishonored Homeplus's promissory note," adding, "We made the announcement to prevent further financial damage."

A checking account is typically opened by corporations or individual businesses to allow banks to manage payments on their behalf. Banks issue checks and promissory notes based on these accounts and pay the amount when the note is presented for payment.

However, due to the rise of real-time transfers, checking transactions are no longer as widely used as before.

Among major commercial banks, only Shinhan Bank and SC First Bank have recent transaction records with Homeplus, while other banks have no active checking account transactions with the company.
