[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] KB Kookmin Bank has disclosed a financial fraud case amounting to approximately KRW 2 billion (₩2,012,550,000), caused by external parties who submitted falsified documents to obtain loans for a solar power facility project.
According to a regulatory filing dated June 27, the fraudulent activity occurred over a period of three years, from June 27, 2019, to July 14, 2022. The incident involved a construction firm and a solar power project developer who allegedly forged or inflated construction contracts to fraudulently secure facility loans. The bank categorized the case as “fraud by external parties” and reported it to the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS).
The fraud was uncovered through an internal report filed by a local branch and is currently under investigation by relevant authorities. The reported collateral for the loans was valued at approximately ₩1.49 billion, but the final loss to the bank has not yet been determined.
This marks the fifth financial fraud incident disclosed by KB Kookmin Bank this year. Previous cases include a ₩2.22 billion jeonse fraud in Sejong (February), a ₩2.07 billion loan scam in Busan (May), a ₩2.19 billion internal credit manipulation case (April), and a ₩4.61 billion scam involving long-term unsold commercial properties (May).
KB Kookmin Bank stated that it is strengthening internal controls and monitoring systems to prevent similar incidents in the future.
