[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] A recall has been initiated for 84 car models, including Hyundai Motor's IONIQ 5 and BMW Korea's 520i, totaling over 290,000 vehicles.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced today (4th) that 298,721 vehicles from 84 models manufactured or imported and sold by Hyundai Motor, BMW Korea, Kia, Honda Korea, and Mercedes-Benz Korea were found to have manufacturing defects and are being voluntarily recalled.
Hyundai Motor: Starting tomorrow (5th), 119,774 units of five models, including the IONIQ 5, will be recalled due to software defects in the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU). Additionally, 29,115 units of the Porter 2 EV will be recalled due to a design flaw related to the clearance between the propeller shaft and the battery case.
BMW Korea: Starting the day after tomorrow (6th), 69,614 units of 62 models, including the 520i, will undergo recalls due to defective quality in the integrated braking system.
Kia: Beginning on the 9th of this month, 58,608 units of the EV6 will be recalled for the same ICCU software defect.
Honda Korea: Recalls are already underway as of the 2nd for 12,713 units of seven models, including the Accord, due to defective impellers in the fuel pump. Additionally, 1,698 units of two models, including the CR-V, are being recalled due to the improper use of springs in the steering gearbox.
Mercedes-Benz Korea: Starting the 6th, 4,112 units of four models, including the Mercedes-AMG E53 4MATIC+, will be recalled due to moisture intrusion in the transmission wiring connector. Moreover, 3,087 units of two models, including the S580 4MATIC, will undergo recalls for engine control unit software defects.
