[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Minyoung] SK Battery America (SKBA), a U.S. subsidiary of SK On, was fined about 100 million won by the U.S. Department of Labor last year for violating safety obligations in connection with a battery fire at a plant in Georgia.
"The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) found five serious safety violations regarding potentially permanent respiratory damage to workers in a lithium battery fire at SK Battery America's Georgia plant in October last year," the U.S. Department of Labor said on the 8th (local time).
Since the fire in October last year, OSHA said, "SK Battery has not trained employees on how to properly protect themselves from toxic air that has injured several workers." The OSHA said, "SKBA failed to establish a complete emergency response plan, exposing workers to harmful substances such as hydrofluoric acid caused by lithium battery fire."
