[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Daewoo Engineering & Construction (Daewoo E&C) has been selected as the preferred bidder for a ₩1 trillion mineral fertilizer plant project by the Turkmenistan Chemical Corporation, according to a public filing on the 21st.

The project involves building a fertilizer plant in Turkmenistan's second-largest city, Türkmenabat, with facilities to produce 350,000 tons of phosphate fertilizer and 100,000 tons of ammonium sulfate annually. Details such as the exact contract value and construction timeline will be announced after the final agreement is signed.

This marks Daewoo E&C's first venture into Central Asia, with plans to explore further opportunities in petrochemicals, fertilizers, infrastructure, and urban development in the region.

The company credited Chairman Jung Won-joo's efforts, as he made three visits to Turkmenistan since 2022 to negotiate with the government and secure the project.
