[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] SEOUL, Oct. 20 — A major system outage hit Coupang’s “Coupang Flex” delivery application on Sunday afternoon, preventing delivery drivers from accessing shipment details and causing widespread delays across the e-commerce giant’s logistics network.
According to industry sources, the disruption began around 3:00 p.m., when the Coupang Flex app, used exclusively by delivery drivers, became unresponsive. The app normally provides route guidance and real-time delivery information.
Unable to access the system, drivers had to manually check addresses printed on waybills, significantly slowing operations. Online communities for delivery workers were filled with complaints such as “All my delivery routes are messed up.”
Coupang said it had launched an emergency recovery effort and was investigating the exact cause of the malfunction.
“We are currently working to restore the service and identify the root cause,” a Coupang spokesperson said.
“No delivery partners or subcontractors will face penalties or disadvantages due to delivery delays caused by this app outage.”
The incident marks another example of how digital infrastructure failures can disrupt the rapid-delivery ecosystem, especially during peak weekend hours when Coupang processes millions of daily orders.
