[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] LS Cable & System and its subsidiary LS Marine Solutions announced on June 25 that they will jointly participate in the Japan-Korea (JAKO) Submarine Cable Project, led by Microsoft (MS) and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
The project aims to establish a high-capacity submarine communications network connecting Busan, South Korea, and Fukuoka, Japan, spanning approximately 260 kilometers. Construction is scheduled to begin this year, with completion targeted for 2027.
The JAKO consortium includes global tech giants Microsoft and AWS, along with South Korea’s Dreamline and Japan’s Arteria Networks. The initiative is part of a broader effort to respond to soaring data traffic demands driven by rapid growth in artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud services.
LS Cable & System has secured the contract under a turnkey (EPC: Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) model, making it the first Korean cable manufacturer to oversee an international submarine communications network project. LS Marine Solutions, its wholly owned subsidiary, will be responsible for the subsea cable installation.
