[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Korean Air reported over 4 trillion KRW in revenue for Q3, attributing strong performance to both passenger business growth and a rise in e-commerce cargo from China.
The airline announced on the 6th that it had generated 4.24 trillion KRW in revenue and 6.19 trillion KRW in operating profit for the third quarter. This marks a 10% increase in revenue and a 19% rise in operating profit compared to the same period last year.
Korean Air's passenger business revenue rose by 2% to 2.62 trillion KRW, driven by peak season demand during the summer vacation and Chuseok holidays. The airline achieved strong results across all routes by focusing on high-demand routes and attracting premium-class passengers.
Cargo business revenue saw a 22% increase to 1.12 trillion KRW, driven by sustained growth in Chinese e-commerce, despite the traditionally slow air cargo season.
Looking ahead to the fourth quarter, Korean Air plans to increase supply on Southeast Asia routes, where demand is expected to rise during the winter season. The airline also intends to diversify its revenue sources by expanding gift card usage, operating paid seating, and stabilizing in-flight Wi-Fi services to enhance profitability.
