[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] South Korean prosecutors have indicted a YouTuber on defamation charges for making false allegations about an associate of Chey Tae-won.
According to legal sources on April 8, the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors’ Office has indicted Park Soon-hyuk (56) without detention on charges of defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act.
Park is accused of claiming on his YouTube channel in late January last year that Kim Hee-young, a director at the T&C Foundation and partner of Chey, could be “a Chinese spy,” among other statements. Prosecutors determined that the remarks constituted false statements that damaged another person’s reputation.
The case was initiated after Chey’s side filed a complaint with police in February last year, and the matter was subsequently referred to prosecutors in July.
The indictment underscores ongoing efforts by authorities to address the spread of defamatory content on digital platforms.
