[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has won four ships in Peru. This is the first time a Korean company has exported traps to the Latin American market.
HD Hyundai Heavy Industries announced on the 29th that it has won a total of four orders from Peru's state-run SIMA shipyard, including one 3400t-class frigate, one 2200t-class naval patrol ship and two 1500t-class landing ships. The contract size is $ 462.9 million (about 625 billion won). The contract was won after fierce competition with Italy, Spain and the Netherlands. The South American region has many old vessels, so additional orders are possible, according to the company.
HD Hyundai Heavy Industries will work with the local Shima shipyard in Peru to deliver ships to the Peruvian Navy by 2029. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries will carry out ship design, equipment supply and technical support, and Shima Shipyard will be in charge of final construction. If the main contract scheduled for April is signed, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries will cooperate as a strategic partner for the Peruvian navy's power enhancement over the next 15 years.
The frigate ordered this time has a length of 127m, a width of 14.9m, a maximum speed of 26.5 knots and a range of 6,000 nautical miles. Active phase array radar equipped with anti-ship missiles and vertical launchers to enhance anti-aircraft detection capabilities; (AESA) will be installed.
