[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Eastar Jet announced on the 20th that it has completed a purchase agreement for 12 of Boeing's latest B737-8 aircraft.
Currently operating a fleet of 15 planes, the airline plans to introduce seven new aircraft in 2025 and five more in 2026, expanding its fleet to 27 by the end of 2026. All the new aircraft will be freshly manufactured by Boeing and delivered directly to the airline.
Eastar Jet resumed operations in March last year with just three aircraft and has since expanded its fleet to 15 planes, operating on 27 routes. In September, the airline surpassed 5 million cumulative passengers in just one year and six months, the fastest among South Korean low-cost carriers, marking rapid growth in its operations.
