[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Hanwha Aerospace announced on Thursday that it has signed an additional export contract with the Indian government for K9 self-propelled howitzers. The contract, valued at approximately KRW 370 billion, marks the second export deal following the initial agreement in 2017.

This latest export deal reflects the K9 howitzer's proven performance and reliability, successfully meeting the Indian Army's stringent operational requirements. Hanwha Aerospace's stable execution of the first contract played a significant role in establishing its reputation as a trusted partner in India’s defense market.

Lee Seong-ho, South Korea's Ambassador to India, emphasized, "This agreement is a symbolic milestone that further strengthens defense cooperation between Korea and India, especially as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Special Strategic Partnership."

With this contract, the K9 howitzer is expanding its presence beyond Europe into the broader Asian market. India is currently undergoing a large-scale military modernization initiative focused on enhancing integrated operations across its army, navy, and air force. This latest deal is also expected to positively influence Hanwha Aerospace’s ongoing negotiations for India's air defense system projects.
