[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Air Premia, a fast-growing hybrid airline, is grappling with mounting delays and cancellations, causing frustration among passengers.

According to the airline industry on Wednesday, Air Premia has announced delays and cancellations for a total of 78 flights from January to date. Among these, 58 flights were delayed by 24 to 48 hours, while 20 flights were canceled. However, this figure excludes same-day delays and cancellations, suggesting the actual number is likely higher.

The disruption stems from an aircraft (HL8387) among Air Premia’s six-plane fleet being grounded due to maintenance issues and a delay in obtaining necessary parts. The ongoing Russia-Ukraine war has exacerbated global supply chain disruptions, leading to delays in securing aircraft engines and other essential components.

Unlike major full-service carriers (FSC) such as Korean Air and Asiana Airlines, or large low-cost carriers (LCC) like Jeju Air and Jin Air, smaller airlines like Air Premia struggle to secure backup aircraft due to their limited fleet size.

The airline’s operational setbacks highlight the vulnerabilities of emerging carriers in the face of global supply chain challenges.
