[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Samsung's mobile payment service "Samsung Pay" will stop supporting Russia's state-run Mir card starting next month.

According to the Moscow Times on the 27th (local time), "You can not register or use Mir card through Samsung Pay from April 3rd" through the Russian website of Samsung Pay. The background of the interruption was not explained.

Russia's self-developed "Mir Card" was used as a major payment card for Russians after Visa and Mastercard stopped operating in Russia due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

According to the Moscow Times, more than half of Russia's population has Mir cards.
