[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Song Bo-young, the Executive Vice President and Head of Passenger Business at Korean Air, has been named the nominee for CEO of Asiana Airlines, which is set to merge with Korean Air.

On Monday, Asiana Airlines announced via a regulatory filing that Song would be proposed as a candidate for internal director during the upcoming extraordinary shareholders' meeting in January. While an Asiana official clarified that the filing pertains to board appointments and the CEO position is not finalized, Song has long been mentioned as the likely candidate for the new leadership, signaling her effective appointment.

In addition to Song, Cho Sung-bae, Head of Materials and Facilities, and Kang Du-seok, Head of Human Resources—both executives dispatched to Asiana Airlines following the merger—are also nominated as internal directors. They are expected to continue overseeing their current responsibilities at Asiana.

Furthermore, Choi Joon-sun, an honorary professor at Sungkyunkwan University Law School, and Kim Hyun-jung, an attorney at Law Firm Naeil Partners, are slated to be newly appointed as outside directors.

Asiana Airlines plans to hold the extraordinary shareholders' meeting on January 16, 2025, to finalize the new board. The future role of the current CEO, Won Yoo-seok, remains undecided.
