[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] SEOUL, Aug. 24 — Samsung Electronics confirmed that its mobile payment platform Samsung Pay experienced a one-hour outage on August 24, preventing users from making or registering payments with Shinhan Card.

The disruption occurred between 6:40 p.m. and 7:40 p.m., during which Shinhan Card transactions were blocked not only within Samsung Pay but also across linked services such as Naver Pay. The issue has since been resolved.

This marks the fourth service disruption for Samsung Pay in 2025. On August 22, users were unable to make or register payments with Hyundai Card for approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes due to network instability between Samsung’s Mokdong Data Center and Hyundai Card.

Earlier this year, Samsung Pay also reported outages in June caused by dedicated network line issues affecting several card issuers, as well as KB Kookmin Card system failures. In April, a separate glitch involving fingerprint authentication temporarily disrupted payment services.

Samsung Electronics stated that it is conducting a thorough review of system stability in collaboration with its card partners to prevent further disruptions.
