[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] An incident occurred at Melbourne Airport when a Boeing passenger aircraft operated by Etihad Airways was forced to make an emergency stop after two of its tires burst during takeoff. The aircraft involved is the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, a different model from the one involved in the recent tragedy at Muan International Airport.

On Monday (local time), Australian ABC News and other outlets reported that at 6:40 PM the previous day, Etihad Airways flight EY461, which was scheduled to depart from Melbourne Airport to Abu Dhabi, UAE, experienced tire bursts while taking off.

According to passengers, the aircraft was speeding down the runway at approximately 300 km/h when the tires burst. After confirming the situation, the captain applied emergency brakes, bringing the aircraft to a halt. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries among the passengers.

Melbourne Airport officials stated, "Foam was used to prevent a fire, and all 289 passengers aboard the aircraft are safe."

However, due to damage to the tires, the aircraft could not be towed and remained on the runway. As a result, one of the two runways was closed, causing significant delays for other flights using the single available runway for both arrivals and departures.
