[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] A fire suspected to have been caused by a portable battery occurred on a passenger plane just before takeoff.

According to Yonhap News on the 12th, smoke was reported around 10 a.m. aboard Air Busan flight BX142 at Gimhae Airport in Busan while the aircraft was taxiing on the runway for takeoff.

The smoke originated from a portable battery held by a passenger. The passenger reportedly suffered burns to their hand.

Cabin crew quickly extinguished the smoke with an onboard fire extinguisher, while the airport fire brigade conducted an inspection of the cabin.

The aircraft returned to the gate from the runway, and all passengers were evacuated from the plane by around 11 a.m.

Approximately 100 passengers were onboard the flight. Some reported dizziness after inhaling the cabin smoke.

The flight, originally scheduled to depart Gimhae Airport for Fukuoka, Japan, will resume after a thorough inspection of the aircraft.
