[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] The Korean Medical Association has warned that even local doctors could face punishment under the Fair Trade Act and the Medical Act if they participate in a collective strike alongside the Korea Medical Association scheduled to begin on the 18th.
Punishment could include the cancellation of medical licenses under the enhanced laws.
On the 9th, the Korean Medical Association announced that out of 78,000 doctors who participated in the online vote conducted from the 4th to the 7th, 52,015 (73.5%) voted in favor of a full-scale strike.
According to the results, 90.6% supported strong action in the first question, and 73.5% supported participation in collective actions, including strikes.
Concerns have been raised that if even local doctors join the strike following the shutdown of major hospitals such as Seoul National University Hospital, it could escalate legislative conflicts and increase potential harm to patients.
