[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Motors reported a decline in their annual European sales for the second year in a row, as competition from Chinese automakers and the lack of new models affected performance.

According to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) on January 27, Hyundai and Kia sold a combined total of 1,042,509 vehicles in Europe last year, down 2.0% from the previous year.

While Hyundai posted a slight 0.2% increase with 535,205 units sold, Kia saw a 4.1% decrease, selling 507,304 units. Despite the decline, Hyundai and Kia have exceeded 1 million units annually in Europe for five consecutive years, maintaining their position as the fourth-largest automaker in the region with a 7.9% market share, down 0.3 percentage points from 2024.

Best-selling models included the Kia Sportage (149,677 units), Hyundai Tucson (118,843 units), Kia Ceed (84,750 units), and Hyundai Kona (80,848 units). Among eco-friendly vehicles, the Tucson (76,101 units), Kia EV3 (65,202 units), and Hyundai Kona (64,211 units) led sales.

In December alone, Hyundai and Kia sold 83,253 vehicles in Europe, up 5.5% from the same month last year, while market share slightly fell to 7.1%.
