[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] Seoul National University Hospital has decided not to conduct a "second-half recruitment" to fill vacancies left by medical residents who resigned due to faculty opposition.

According to hospital officials on the 18th, they reported to the government that they will recruit about 30 positions for the second half of the year.

There were approximately 830 medical residents affiliated with Seoul National University Hospital and Bundang Seoul National University Hospital, most of whom left the hospital in February following the government's policy, resulting in mass resignations.

Earlier, the government ordered the 211 training hospitals nationwide to confirm the scale of vacancies for medical residents and submit them to the Evaluation Committee for Training Environments by the 17th.

Based on this, the government plans to proceed with the recruitment process for the second half from the 22nd using the "training exception" designed to encourage the return of medical residents.

However, Seoul National University Hospital professors have strongly opposed conducting second-half recruitment, arguing that the hospital should handle the mass resignations of medical residents who did not return to determine the vacancy scale.

In response, the hospital decided to process the resignations of medical residents who have no intention of returning as of February 29 and to proceed with second-half recruitment only for existing vacancies, not those resulting from the recent resignations.

Oh Seung-won, head of the Seoul National University Medical Center's publicity team, said, "The decision reflects the results of the professor survey conducted by the Medical Education Committee and the opinions of resigning medical residents."
