[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) has conducted a special inspection of Jin Air following a series of internal complaints regarding workforce shortages and employee fatigue ahead of the peak summer travel season.

According to industry sources on June 22, the inspection was launched to examine potential legal violations within Jin Air’s operations. Although no infractions related to excessive working hours for cabin crew were found, MOLIT reportedly ordered the airline to present a corrective action plan to address concerns over tight flight schedules caused by staffing shortages. The ministry also plans to monitor the airline’s follow-up measures.

In parallel, Korean Air, Jin Air’s parent company, is said to have initiated an internal audit of the low-cost carrier.

The investigation comes in response to posts shared on the workplace community app “Blind,” where a user claiming to be a current Jin Air pilot urged the public to avoid flying with the airline during the summer due to severe pilot shortages. Another post, allegedly from a Jin Air aircraft maintenance technician, raised concerns about dangerously high fatigue levels among maintenance crews.

The technician cited several operational issues, including:

Six-day workweeks for regional and overseas maintenance personnel

Simultaneous inspections of multiple aircraft arriving at overlapping times

Lack of rest after returning from overseas assignments

These disclosures have raised red flags about the strain on Jin Air's workforce and the potential impact on operational safety and service reliability.
