[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] POCHEON, South Korea – Police have requested an arrest warrant for an NH NongHyup Bank employee accused of armed robbery and assault after allegedly breaking into an elderly couple’s home and stealing valuables.

The Pocheon Police Department announced on July 29 that it applied for a warrant to detain a man in his 30s, identified only as Mr. A, on charges of robbery resulting in injury — a more serious offense than aggravated robbery.

Authorities say Mr. A entered a third-floor apartment in Eoryong-dong, Pocheon, around 4:00 a.m. on July 28, threatened an elderly couple in their 80s with a knife, tied them with cable ties, and fled with cash and jewelry worth approximately KRW 20 million.

Remarkably, Mr. A reportedly showed up to work at his local NH NongHyup branch at 8:10 a.m., only four hours after the attack. When arrested, police found about 70 don (≈262g) of gold in his bag, and the stolen cash had been deposited into his personal account.

The victims were identified as VIP clients who had deposited significant funds at the branch and withdrew around KRW 300 million earlier this month. Mr. A told investigators he learned of the couple by overhearing a conversation at the bank, admitting to the crime but offering inconsistent explanations for his motive.

Prosecutors are expected to formally file for his detention warrant later today, with a court hearing on the request likely to take place as early as July 30.
