[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] SEOUL/PRAGUE, May 21, 2025 — Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) has filed an appeal with the Czech Republic's Supreme Administrative Court to lift a court injunction that halted the signing of a contract for the construction of the Dukovany nuclear power plant. This move may reignite momentum in KHNP’s bid to win the high-profile Czech nuclear project, which has been stalled at its final stage.

According to KHNP, the appeal was submitted on May 20 (local time). The project's commissioning body, EDU II, also submitted a similar appeal on the same day.

The Brno Regional Court previously issued an injunction on May 6, one day before the scheduled contract signing ceremony, in response to a legal challenge filed by Électricité de France (EDF). EDF, which lost the bidding competition, alleged procedural issues in the tender process and brought the case before the Czech Competition Authority (UOHS). The court decided that contract signing should be suspended until a ruling is made on the main lawsuit.

If the Supreme Administrative Court rules in favor of KHNP and EDU II, the final contract is expected to be signed without delay. The Czech government has already approved the agreement between KHNP and EDU II. Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala previously stated, “We are prepared to proceed immediately with the signing once the court permits it.”

A KHNP official emphasized, “Lifting the injunction would allow us to sign the contract without further delay, helping to prevent potential losses caused by the postponement.”
