[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Naver is introducing a level-based evaluation system for its employees, where their performance is assessed according to their abilities rather than years of service. This move is seen as an effort to bring changes to the organization ahead of founder Lee Hae-jin’s return to the board.

According to IT industry sources on Tuesday, Naver announced its plans for the level-based growth system in an internal notice on the 24th. The company plans to provide more details and explain the implementation process during an HR briefing session, "HR SHARE," on March 5.

The level-based system assigns levels based on employee capabilities, irrespective of their years of service, and links those levels to performance-based compensation. Naver had attempted to introduce a similar system in 2020, but it was canceled due to internal opposition.

The introduction of this level-based system is viewed as a strategic move to bring change to Naver’s organization with the return of founder Lee Hae-jin. Lee, who stepped down from the board to focus on global expansion, will rejoin as an internal director at the regular shareholders' meeting on March 26, marking his return to the board after seven years.

A Naver spokesperson stated, "We are reviewing various methods for employee growth. The new approach may differ from the one we previously attempted, and we will share the details with employees during the internal briefing."
