[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Seoul, South Korea — July 28, 2025 — Hyundai Engineering & Construction (Hyundai E&C) announced it will carry out a comprehensive structural safety inspection after cracks were discovered inside the newly built Olympic Park Foreon apartment complex in Seoul’s Gangdong District.

The company said it met with the Gangdong District Office earlier today to discuss response measures following residents’ reports of a long horizontal crack on the wall of a corridor on the 34th floor of one building. Images of the crack shared on online communities and social media sparked growing concern among homeowners and the public.

Hyundai E&C stated it suspects the cracks formed at the joint section between vertical columns and the roof slab during concrete pouring. However, given that the complex was only completed eight months ago and that horizontal cracks are relatively rare, experts have stressed the urgency of a thorough safety assessment.

The builder said it will first conduct a sitewide inspection, then appoint a specialized engineering firm to carry out a detailed safety diagnosis to determine the cause and take any necessary corrective measures.

Olympic Park Foreon, with 12,000 units, is the largest reconstruction project in Korean history and has drawn strong market attention thanks to its scale, prime location, and new-build premium.
