[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] LG Innotek is accelerating its next-generation robotics component business by partnering with Boston Dynamics, a robot subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Group.

On the 12th of this month, LG Innotek announced that it had signed a partnership agreement with Boston Dynamics to jointly develop robotics components. As part of the agreement, both companies will collaborate on the development of a "vision sensing system" for robots.

The vision sensing system integrates various sensing components, including RGB cameras and 3D sensing modules, into a single module. With this system, robots can accurately perceive their surroundings by integrating data from multiple components, even under limited visibility conditions such as at night or in adverse weather.

LG Innotek will provide the vision sensing modules for the next-generation model of Boston Dynamics' humanoid robot, "Atlas." Meanwhile, Boston Dynamics will develop software to effectively process the visual data captured by the vision sensing modules.

At CES 2024, LG Innotek also introduced its "Sensor Pot," a sensing solution for autonomous driving that combines the advantages of various sensing components, similar to the vision sensing system.

LG Innotek plans to expand its collaboration with Boston Dynamics, exploring ways to apply not only optical technologies but also a wide range of core technologies to robotics.
