[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] CJ Logistics’ introduction of seven-day delivery service, launched in January to include Sundays and public holidays, is now facing escalating friction between its courier union and the company’s agency association over fee-related issues.

On June 10, the CJ Logistics Courier Union announced it had suspended negotiations with the agency association and formally requested mediation from the Central Labor Relations Commission, citing unresolved disagreements over additional holiday delivery fees.

As part of the transition to a seven-day delivery system, CJ Logistics had pledged to gradually implement a five-day workweek for its couriers. Following this shift, the union and the agency association signed a basic agreement on January 14 and have been negotiating the terms of a formal collective agreement since then.

However, talks have stalled due to key differences, including the union’s demand for increased compensation for holiday deliveries, concerns about some agencies reducing high-rate commissions, and disputes over the burden of industrial accident insurance premiums.

“The current level of additional holiday pay is insufficient — it doesn’t even cover fuel costs for Sunday deliveries, which remain minimal in volume,” the union stated.

The union is also urging the adoption of a standardized commission deduction rate, pointing out that fees deducted from courier earnings vary widely by region.

In response, CJ Logistics commented that Sunday delivery volumes are steadily increasing. The company added that while progress had been made in negotiations, it intends to resolve certain remaining issues in coordination with government authorities.
